Different trainers at De Werf
Ian van der Werf
01 December 2025At De Werf we deliberately don't work with one type of trainer. No standard approach, no one-size-fits-all. Instead, we build a team of diverse professionals - women and men, young and experienced - who each bring their own style, energy and expertise. Not because we want to stand out, but because you need it.
Your programme deserves a match, not a copy
Every client who walks into De Werf brings a unique story. Sometimes it's about physical fitness, sometimes mental recovery, and often patterns that have been at play for years. Giving everyone the same guidance simply doesn't work. Nor does assuming one type of trainer can handle it all. That's why we make sure there is always someone who suits you - in approach, rhythm and tone. Someone who understands which phase of life you're in, and who moves with you without taking over the wheel.
Different phases call for different coaches
Returning to work after a burnout requires something different from working towards a triathlon or a fitter body after fifty. Sometimes you need a coach who gently slows you down, sometimes someone who firmly activates you. Think of:
- recovery and build-up: trainers who slow things down and offer safety
- structure and rhythm: coaches who are methodical and calm
- challenge and progression: coaches who dare to challenge, without pushing
- long-term maintenance: professionals who think in lifestyle and continuity
All of that without performance pressure, but with results.
No egos, just experience
Our trainers aren't chosen for muscle mass or Instagram followers, but for what they bring into the room: attention, expertise, flexibility. They can switch between strength and vulnerability. And they always work from the Werf approach: personal, rhythmic and with an eye for the bigger picture.
All trainees at De Werf have completed our internal nine-month training programme, in which we train not only knowledge and technique, but above all attitude, people skills and guiding lasting change.
We work with a combination of Dutch-speaking and native English-speaking trainers. That matters, because part of our clientele comes from the international community in and around The Hague. It allows us to guide expats and English-speaking professionals in their own language and frame of reference - without losing depth or connection.
Your process, your rhythm, your coach
At De Werf we believe lasting change only happens when you feel safe, seen and challenged at the right moment. Our diversity of trainers is no coincidence - it is a deliberate choice that helps us guide you better.
