Burnout and stress
Step by step towards a healthy balance
At De Werf, we know that burnout or long-term stress doesn't simply go away with 'a day off to relax'. It takes rest, insight into what your body and mind are telling you, and a plan to do things differently. In this programme, we guide you towards restoring your energy, so you can feel who you are again, what you want, and how to arrange your life without constantly tipping into overload.
Stress or burnout means your body and mind have been running at full speed for a long time without enough recovery. You're often tired, irritable, and struggle to focus or sleep. In this programme, we guide you from that overload towards a new balance: functioning more calmly, with attention to your physical fitness, mental health and lifestyle. That creates space for recovery - and for building up again.
Why this programme matters so much
When stress builds up for too long, without giving your body and mind the chance to recover, the risk of a burnout rises sharply. A recovery programme helps on several fronts at once: physically, mentally and in your lifestyle.¹ That way you not only improve your recovery, you also lower the risk of relapse. At De Werf, we make sure your recovery is calmer, more sustainable and more structural. Not just 'back to square one', but 'better than ever'.
Recovery takes more than just rest
Burnout or long-term stress is rarely down to a single cause. It's often an accumulation of factors: high workload, few moments of recovery, perfectionism or constantly caring for others. That makes recovery more complex than simply 'recharging'.
At De Werf, we therefore look not only at removing stress, but at the bigger picture. What has worn you out? What gives you energy? What needs to change so it doesn't happen again?
Our programme helps you step by step: from rest and insight to new routines and lasting change. Not back to how things were, but forward, towards a life that suits you better.
A real example from our practice
"Not long ago, a woman came to De Werf. A demanding job, a busy family and a full social life on top of that. She was running herself into the ground on every front. When her body finally sent the bill, she thought she just needed a bit of rest. But rest alone did not bring her back. We started by teaching her to feel her body again, in small steps and at a pace she could handle. Not to recover faster, but to make it last this time."
Starting begins with trust
A burnout or ongoing stress leaves you vulnerable. You are not at your strongest, and that is exactly when it helps to begin your recovery with conviction. That conviction carries you through the harder moments of a programme.
Trust is built in practice, not on paper. You want to know what it is like to work with your trainer before you make the move into recovery. That is why at De Werf you always start with a free intake and a full training session. You experience how we work, and we get to know you and your situation. That gives us both the insight and the trust to take on the programme together.

Why movement helps with burnout
When you’re suffering from burnout, even getting out of bed can feel like too much. Yet it turns out that physical activity actually plays a key role in recovery. Not by pushing yourself too hard, but by finding a rhythm, resting and gently getting your body moving again.

Frequently asked questions
Burnout usually develops through prolonged overload without proper recovery, leading to physical, mental and emotional exhaustion.
Not always completely, but often a temporary reduction or a different set-up helps. What matters is: fewer stimuli, more rest, and together we'll see what suits you.
Every recovery is unique. On average, it takes weeks or even months before you feel strong again. More important than speed is building your strength gradually and preventing a relapse. We know from experience that regular exercise speeds up your recovery.
Absolutely. At De Werf, we take a holistic approach to your lifestyle: physical training, nutrition, recovery and daily routine all go hand in hand. The recovery programme ties in perfectly with this.
The costs depend on your situation, duration and intensity. In some cases, your employer or insurer may cover part or all of the costs - we can look into what applies to you together.
